Dental Fillings

At Back Bay Family Dentistry, we are a mercury-free practice. We strongly advise all of our patients get their fillings removed if they contain mercury as well. Old silver fillings are 50% mercury, which can be toxic to the body. Silver fillings also tend to become damaged over time, allowing cavities to re-form. At Back Bay, we recommend tooth-colored restorations using inlays and onlays.

How Can I Get My Fillings Replaced?

  • Your old dental filling will be removed along with any new dental decay.
  • Using our advanced 3-D imaging technology we will create an impression of your teeth.
  • We will carefully place a resin into the impression we made, creating an inlay or onlay that looks natural with your smile.
  • The final onlay or inlay will be placed on your tooth.

Dental Fillings Vs. Inlays and Onlays

Traditional dental fillings can actually cause damage and a loss of structural integrity to your teeth. With dental inlays and onlays, the tooth is actually more protected than before. Inlays and onlays cover the biting surface and in some cases cusps of the teeth. This prevents further decay and damage to your teeth.

If you have old silver fillings you’d like removed or think you need a tooth-colored restoration, please contact our staff at Back Bay Family Dentistry. We would be happy to schedule an appointment with Dr. Parker or Dr. Miner for you!
